Monday morning, I woke up full of energy. My morning workout went by so much quicker than usual; my mind was so far away from the exercise it was as if my body was going through the motion but I wasn’t actually in the room. I knew that this was the morning I had to do it, there was no looking back, it was now or never.
As I walked around the block to get some fresh air, I listened to one of my latest song’s “Your Bucket List”. A song about people who spend their lives ‘saving up’ and putting off pursuing their dreams and true purposes because they’re sold this idea that they need to save and wait. Only then to find themselves saving up just to buy a book that’s called ‘Your Bucket List’ which they write but never get around to actually fulfilling. The song had me amped up and I felt an electricity like I’ve never felt before. I marched into our flat, opened my laptop and clicked ‘send’ on the email that I’d had written out for weeks now. The email contained my months leaving notice and was addressed to my managers and HR.
The moment I clicked send I was liberated and overcome with a sense of complete pleasure. That day marked the first day of my true life, a life that is going to be spent pursuing my true Self; my actual purpose. Never again will I work within the ‘machine’, being a part of the factory or have to work on the ‘grind’.
The truth is, you don’t have to. You’re just made to believe that you have to. It’s a myth that most people fall for. If right now you’re reading this and coming up with a whole bunch of reasons as to why you can’t just quit your job to follow your dreams, then it’s because you believe in the myth so deeply that you can’t see otherwise OR maybe you’re fearful of actually following your dreams. In yoga we call that voice the ‘ego’ – your mind, your fears, your excuses. It’s not good to live as your ego, you must find ways to control it in order to become your true Self. Something too few of us ever do.
So far, the only responses I’ve had from people when I tell them that I’ve quit my day job is one that is overwhelmingly positive. They light up and give me a look that either states how much they wish they could do the same or they proceed to tell me a story of when they did the same. It’s always one of liberation with a contagious feeling of excitement. I am excited, I’m excited for what comes next.
What’s my plan going forward? Well, to pursue my true calling… Music, yoga and my passion for a creative healthy lifestyle. I want to share all these with everyone who is willing to live a truly fulfilling life.
Life is not linear, it is not the box that you have to stay in, it is whatever you want it to be. You are the main character of the story.

If you haven’t already, do yourself the greatest favour and read the book “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. I’m going to round off this post with a quote from the book…
“Why do we have to listen to our hearts?” the boy asked.
“Because, wherever your heart is, that is where you will find your treasure.”
Follow your heart, don’t give into what your ego tells you and remember to question everything – you might find that there’s more than one was to live your life.
all the love.
