Season 2: Post Twenty-six.
It happened. In the whole 56 days I’ve been daily blogging, I finally missed a post and then missed one again the following day. Why? Well, let me explain the importance of taking a break.
In fitness, when you reach burnout you take a rest day. If you find your performance is plateauing or you’re losing enthusiasm, you take some recovery time and perhaps prioritise something else for a few days. You can then use this time to readjust your training plan, change things up, maybe even reassess your goals and create a plan that is more suited to your new challenges. Though my weekend was far from a rest physically, those that know me will know that means a good thing for me, I did decide to take a rest from the blog.

Saturday was a busy day. It started with a fresh 9 miles along the river. I woke up at 6am, the same time I would normally for work and headed to the gym, started my run from the gym as per usual and headed up the river. I even chose to shower at the gym, as I usually would on a work day, due to it being so convenient. The people who work there must question whether I own a shower, as I typically shower/change there 6 days a week. My girlfriend and I then headed to the famous Sherwood Forrest for a bit of Robin Hood related culture and a nice walk around in the pines. Following this we conducted some fine retail therapy in Nottingham’s Victoria shopping centre and ended the day with a somewhat average meal in Rub Smokehouse. It was a great day all in all.

Sunday, I took a rest day from exercise, despite my mind’s usual disapproval, the physical benefits definitely shone through due to me being completely fatigued. Sunday morning consisted of song writing ‘church’, a staple to my Sunday morning when I’m not touring, racing or away, followed by an afternoon of chill and good food. All in all, a top weekend.

Let’s talk burnout then. If you’re up-to-date with my posts, you might have noticed a lack of enthusiasm behind the writing. When compared with my earlier posts, particularly those from the initial 30-day challenge, you can tell that the energy and spark has been lacking recently. I think, it’s time to revamp the blog and change it up a bit. As I keep harking on about it, the shop will become a priority for this week and I’ll be sure to set it up. I’d like to finish off Season 2 with a few more stories, perhaps a longer one that will go over a few posts.

I plan on fully promoting the blog on my social media platform’s again, using the stickers and shop to aid in this. Season 3 will start with a new challenge in mind too. I’m not 100% on what this will be yet, but I’m determined to create a buzz about this site again. Recovery days have had their desired effect and I’m back with a passion. Bring it on!
